thinking about the Emperor

15/04/09

I'm thinking about the Emperor Francis Josef, last Emperor of Austria and Hungary. He was the symbol of a declining world, with an entire conception of the world disappeared. He was a melancholic character, closed in the role of Emperor. Unable to just go around walking alone, any speech was a political discourse. He can't say bad against someone because he risked to destroy his reputation. He can't just flirt around, because his love was a public affair. Love, hate, sex, friendship... everything was an imperial affair, everything was the symbol of a declining world. Each anecdot about him, his an historical fact, while he'd like just going around having a beer with a couple of friends.
Whilst, he was the symbol of a declining world, everything he did confirmed such a stereothype, everything. He renonced love and friendship, because everything was an imperial affair, everything was the symbol of a declining world.

Hey Duke!
Sorry, but I have to correct you! Franz Joseph was not the last Austrian Emperor. He died in 1916, in the middle of world war I.

Karl the first became the last Kaiser, even if for only two years.

A declining world never ends with its symbol, but tries to survive at least a bit more before crashing on itself...

Ok, it isn't the last emperor, but symbol matters. A lot.
