It isn't necessary to spend too much in the analysis of the results. It seems a result like any handbook of politics predicts: to face a crisis either a new leadership rises and all together we look forward (e.g. Obama, US) or everyone becomes introverted, egoistic and thinks just about his/her security (see European right-wings).

Some short considerations:
1. I hope PPE will change President of the EU Commission, someone else like Aznar. Anyone will be better than Barroso.
2. European Socialism is dead (see France) it is necessary a deep renew, moving to socialdemocracy including green and democratic parties. Furthermore, left parties have to resolve questions about immigration and social welfare because nobody has given convincingly answers.
3. [warning] The vote participation is dramatically fallen all across Europe, only right parties have been able to collect their votes. We've to think about... seriously...

Finally, the key is how left parties will react: does Madame Aubry will resign (and Mme Royal to)? Will the SPD go out form the grosse koalitione and have an alliance with Die Linke? What will happen in the next congress of the Italian PD?
